The River Spey is one of the largest rivers in Scotland and is one of the big four Scottish salmon rivers. The river is famous not only for its stocks of Atlantic salmon but also migratory sea trout and resident brown trout. The River Spey flows from the Source at Loch Spey and travels through the Highlands where it is snow fed from the Cairngorm Mountains and down through Moray discharing into the Moray Firth at Garmouth. At Garmouth, the River Spey is characterised by wide channels and flood plains resulting in a relatively slow flow. The season opens on the 11th February and runs until 30th September. Anglers can expect to catch fish from the opening day onwards throughout the river, depending on the temperature and river heights. Whether you are a professional or amateur angler, salmon fishing on the River Spey amidst the beauty and peacefulness or the surrounding countryside will ensure a trip to remember. |
